The sorcerer’s apprentice

Mostly about the art of Animation.

I’ll start with two articles on “Spider-Man — To the Spider-verse.” A movie that the more I watch it, the happier I am that it has ever come to life. Within a decade of superheroes, we have gained a rare pearl, a unique, experimental and story-telling piece of technique, layered with layers of emotion, geeky information with a sober and different view of popular culture. Amidst all this, “Spider Verse” is also an animated celebration. In this film, Sony has set an artistic bar that it is hard to see anyone in the mainstream animation industry to be able to meet in the near future.

About Authenticity in Animation. Very real article.

Animation is limitless, indeed!

And we will go over a number of interesting topics: Cinderella as a showcase of Disney’s nine old men:
On the film “Prince of Egypt”, a forgotten masterpiece

This year one of the most controversial topics was of course Disney’s remixed classics. Which caused a sense of nostalgia along with a sense of disgust at the very Disney’s implicit declaration of the irrelevance of the original films. On the other hand, it is precisely these versions that have managed to spark discussion about where the original movies, and animation in general, reach a level that cannot be reproduced or copied no matter how many effects you use.

Article One: Comparison of Aladdin’s Character in the Original Movie as Compared to the New Movie. very interesting.

Here are the video articles on this topic. And top: Lindy Ellis who analyzes (with great length, and with great talent) the remakes and especially where they gently try Phil’s politically correct to correct past, true or imagined wrongs.
Why do animators hate the new lion king? (Maybe because he is under the animation category while draining the concept of our artistic content? Maybe)
Like I said, these remakes have a longing for the original works and remind us of how successful they were thanks to the use of the medium itself.
What is “good animation”?
And in a broader context: what causes the resurgence of old cinematic brands. “Heritage Films.” Very smart article.

And to another theme: “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” Wes Anderson’s wonderful stop motion movie, celebrating a decade.
Maybe my favorite movie.

An article to introduce you to the hidden and dark artistic side of the Simpsons. A self-encounter with the reverberation of popular culture on the repressed sides of art and the web.

Not just animation and cinema: Nerdwriter on one of the most recognizable works of art (especially book covers): “Christina’s World.”

In conclusion, guess who also tried to make a video article this year? I did! It was a little test that I liked about Wall-E and the dystopian world that he presents through sexuality and gender. (Hebrew)
